     Field Trip Update

This spot will keep you posted on important field trip information throughout the year.

Our first field trip will be some time in October, as we traverse sections of Mt. Tom. Check back for updates as we finalize dates and times.

 Homework

Please check to make sure your children are doing their homework. There is, except for rare occasions, math homework every night. Science will generally be every other day. Weekend homework will generally consist of long term projects and a math review sheet. Homework completion is essential to mastering fifth grade standards.

Just like the rest of the MESMS, our class uses the Accelerated Reader program in order to enhance the reading of our students. Each student has a reading level that was determined at the beginning of the year. They must read books in this level. Each book they read has a point value and a corresponding quiz on the computer. Once they finish a book, they take the quiz, and accumulate more points. Each student has a points goal for the term that they are working towards.

According to our reading specialist, it is imperative that each child reads for an hour a day. Everyone reads for a half hour in school, the other half hour is homework. Please, make certain your child is reading. It is the best way to improve.
